Tenerife

Discover Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands, where the sun shines all year round and adventure awaits around every corner. Tenerife is not just a holiday destination, it is the place that fascinates with its natural beauty, rich culture and unforgettable experiences.

Tenerife is the largest Canary Island and belongs to Spain. Around 900,000 inhabitants live on the island and countless holidaymakers are drawn there every year.

How about a stroll along one of the countless golden beaches, feeling the warm sand under your feet and listening to the gentle sound of the waves? For the more active, the island offers a variety of water sports, from relaxed paddling to exciting windsurfing.

Tenerife

But Tenerife is more than just beaches. How about a visit to the Teide National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here rises the majestic Teide, Spain’s highest peak, which offers a breathtaking backdrop for hikers and photographers. The diverse landscapes, from moon-like cliffs to lush green valleys, are a true feast for the senses.

Culturally, life on the island is very varied. The lively atmosphere of the local fiestas, where traditional music and dancing enliven the streets, enchant every holidaymaker. The local cuisine seduces with a delicious mix of Spanish influences and exotic flavours. Fresh seafood or a traditional “papas arrugadas” with mojo sauce are part of every holiday.

And when the sun goes down, a whole new world opens up. Tenerife is an excellent place for stargazing. Thanks to the clear skies and protected light pollution laws, you can see the Milky Way with the naked eye, a truly unforgettable experience.

Tenerife vacations – our tips

Pico del Teide
Teide National Park

Every morning from our breakfast table at the hotel we had a magnificent view of the Pico del Teide. Sometimes the mountain was covered in clouds, sometimes it stood out in sharp contrast to the clear blue sky and on one morning we even saw snow at the top of it.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife – a flying visit

Santa Cruz de Tenerife was only one of many places along the road from the southern part of the island back to the north for us. Until we decided to stop off and inhale some city aroma.

La Orotava
A trip to La Orotava on a rainy day

La Orotava is located in the Orotava valley in the North of the island of Tenerife. On a rainy day, we took our hire car to Orotava. Our objective: Get out of the hotel and go for a little walk.

Do we, or don’t we? Drive to the Faro de Teno Lighthouse

That is the big question. The Faro de Teno Lighthouse lets some visitors feel the sting of remorse. That is because actually, driving through to the lighthouse is not permitted.

Getting There

Arrival

There are two airports in Tenerife. Most holiday planes land and take off in Tenerife South, while connecting flights between the Canary Islands usually start from Tenerife North.

On the Way in Tenerife

By bus
TITSA buses operate on the island. The buses are mostly air-conditioned and quite cheap. However, the journey times can be quite long, as there are many stops.

By taxi
Shorter distances can be covered well with taxis, which are quite cheap.

Free Shuttle
Most theme and leisure parks offer free shuttles from the tourist centres on certain days.

By car
There are many car rental companies on the island. The roads are quite good. Especially in the mountains they can be very narrow and curvy.

Best time to travel

Best time to visit Tenerife

Tenerife, one of the enchanting Canary Islands, is known for its mild climate all year round. Due to the island’s location in the Atlantic Ocean and the mountain ranges on the island, there is no uniform climate on Tenerife.

If you only look at the temperature, you will hardly notice any differences, with mild temperatures all year round. However, due to the mountain massif and the prevailing wind directions, the north of the island is much more humid than the south. Clouds often cling to the Teide massif and rain down.

Spring (March to May):
Temperatures range comfortably between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius. This time is ideal for enjoying Tenerife’s diverse nature on hikes and exploratory tours, as the rainy days are still few and far between, especially in March.

Summer (June to August):
Temperatures are often hot, often reaching 25 to 30 degrees Celsius and even higher in some parts of the island. During these months, the skies are usually clear and rainy days are a rarity.

Autumn (September to November):
The warm weather continues, with temperatures ranging from a pleasant 22 to 27 degrees Celsius. The number of rainy days only increases slightly in November.

Winter (December to February):
Temperatures rarely fall below 17 degrees Celsius. However, the nights can be cooler, especially in the mountains. Most rainy days occur during these months, especially in January and February.
