Tenerife is the largest Canary Island and belongs to Spain. About 900.000 inhabitants live on the island and every year it attracts countless holidaymakers.
One reason to plan a Tenerife holiday is the beautiful nature on the island. Plants grow here that can only be found in the Canary Islands. These include, for example, the Canary Island pine and the Canary Island dragon tree. Very typical for the island are a small variety of potatoes, the Papas, which are harvested several times a year.
One of the main attractions of the island is the Pico del Teide in the Teide National Park. In the national park you can discover a volcanic landscape like no other.
Tenerife travel information
Due to the island’s location in the Atlantic Ocean and the mountain ranges on the island, there is no uniform climate in Tenerife.
If you only look at the temperature, you will hardly notice any differences, as the temperatures here are mild all year round. However, due to the mountain massif and the prevailing wind directions, the north of the island is much more humid than the south. Often the clouds are stuck to the Teide massif and rain is falling.
How to get there
There are two airports in Tenerife. Most holiday planes land and take off in Tenerife South, while connecting flights between the Canary Islands usually start from Tenerife North.
On the way on …
TITSA buses operate on the island. The buses are mostly air-conditioned and quite cheap. However, the journey times can be quite long, as there are many stops.
Shorter distances can be covered well with taxis, which are quite cheap.
Most theme and leisure parks offer free shuttles from the tourist centres on certain days.
There are many car rental companies on the island. The roads are quite good. Especially in the mountains they can be very narrow and curvy.
