Looking for a hotel in Plauen? During our visit we stayed at the Hotel Alexandra directly in the pedestrian zone of the city center.
Our approach to the Hotel Alexandra led us through the slightly confusing one-way street system of Plauen directly to the small hotel parking lot behind the house. Here we could leave the car the entire time of our stay, because from the hotel you can walk in a few minutes to all the important sights of the city.
The hotel is a family-run business and has been welcoming guests in Plauen for over 165 years. Yes, and a little bit I also felt transported back in time when I entered the lobby of the hotel. The hotel is designed in art nouveau and baroque style. The entrance is dominated by huge blue upholstered furniture and a golden elephant. Everywhere the light glitters in crystal chandeliers and it almost like in a fairy tale or a castle.
The hotel has 70 rooms and 2 suites, some of which are newly renovated. You can have breakfast in “le Café” or in the large restaurant. We preferred the smaller café, which reminded me a bit of a French street café. The breakfast offers everything your heart desires – from savory to sweet, from muesli to rolls, regional products are offered as much as possible. In the afternoon you can eat a delicious piece of cake in the café and drink coffee comfortably.
Of course, we also took a look at the restaurant. There, noble fabrics and wallpapers, as well as beautiful crystal chandeliers dominated the room. In the evening, regional, national and international cuisine is offered here.
If you still have enough energy after the long day in Plauen, you can visit the “Blue Bar” in the hotel in the evening. Unfortunately, we no longer had this energy.
Hotel Alexandra also offers its guests two conference rooms and a wellness area. Events such as a mystery dinner regularly attract guests to the hotel.
Surprise – what a room
After unlocking our door to the room, we stood not in a room, but in a suite. A suite with “wow effect” and completely furnished in baroque style!
There are 3 rooms leading off of one hallway. My first path in any hotel is the bathroom and when I turned on the light, I stood in a dream bathroom! A huge corner bathtub and a shower, what more could you want! I find the term “wellness oasis” for a bathroom always slightly exaggerated, but in this case it was my wellness oasis that sweetened my evening after long walks through the city.
The bedroom is dominated by a large double bed and an even larger wardrobe, all furnished in baroque style. We really slept very well here.
The third room is a living room. Baroque furniture is here as well, only the TV (without which you don’t get the corresponding star category) “destroyed” the look a bit. But I know, a TV “must” be, we don’t need it, but other hotel guests certainly do. We spent the two evenings sitting here comfortably and reviewing the events of the day. In Plauen you can experience a lot and the Hotel Alexandra offered us the necessary rest in the evening.
The suite was really beautiful and you felt a bit like in a fairy tale castle. We felt comfortable and spent two nice evenings there.
