Looking for craft beer from Erfurt? No problem! The small Erfurt brewery Heimathafen, which produces excellent beer, is located in the train harbor Kulturbahnhof.
Jan has been brewing beer in his hometown of Erfurt since 2017. Initially a one-man show, he expanded his team over the years. Today, 4 brewers stand in the rooms in the Zughafen and produce very good tasting beer and lead brewing courses for beer lovers.
The term “craft brewed beer” clearly applies to the Erfurt brewery. From the brewing process to bottling to labeling the bottles, everything here is done by hand.
Heimathafen – beer selection
By default, four beers are offered in the Erfurt Braumanufaktur Heimathafen. There are also numerous seasonal beers. I have already tried some of the beers:
GaBi
The first beer from the brewery and still a hit is GaBi. The name does not refer to a female person, but stands for garage beer. It was actually created in a garage in a 20 liter brew pot. The tasty light beer was created according to the Bavarian brewing style and has an alcohol content of 4.9%.
I was allowed to try the beer and it was really very good, tasty and not too hoppy.
EgOn
EgOn is a hoppy Pilsner. The unfiltered golden-yellow beer was brewed according to the Pilsner method and tastes slightly tart.
For me a pleasant Pils that doesn’t taste too strong, but clearly shows the Pils taste.
JaCk
This beer is a top fermented unfiltered Pale Ale. I found the taste to be quite hoppy and at 5.1% alcohol it is a bit stronger. I enjoyed it!
Erfurter Urbier
This beer was created according to an original Erfurt Schlunz recipe from 1824. The top-fermented dark beer tastes very malty. The hop note is very pleasant.
Hefeweizen
Hefeweizen is a seasonal beer from the Erfurt brewery. Amber-colored, it glows in the glass. It smells fruity, but lacks the typical banana-like smell and taste familiar from Hefeweizen. This is due to the greater use of aroma ovens and the performance of cold hopping during the brewing process.
I find the taste surprising. It is so not at all reminiscent of the typical Hefeweizen flavor. I like it!
Braukurse
If you want to learn the art of brewing beer, you can take part in a brewing course at the Heimathafen. In addition to brewing, beer is of course also tasted. When the beer is ready after 5 weeks, you can pick it up on site.
