Finding a hotel in Madrid can be quite easy if you are looking for a hotel that is not far from the train station and yet so centrally located that you can easily reach many sights on foot. The Only YOU Hotel Atocha offers exactly these advantages.
The Only YOU Hotel Atocha is an upscale hotel that offers its guests excellent service. The 19th century building has been modernised and has soundproofed rooms and, of course, each room has its own bathroom.
One of the most important points for us: Atocha train station is just across the street, the metro station is practically on the doorstep and the main sights are within walking distance.
A warm welcome to the Only YOU Hotel Atocha
For me, check-in is the flagship of a hotel. If I am greeted nicely and everything is explained to me in a calm manner, then I feel at ease. The staff at reception have managed this brilliantly! No hectic rushing through information – the service here was friendly and courteous. We were even given tips for our shopping tour, including directions on a map. Our heavy luggage was also kindly taken from us at check-out and stored safely until our departure.
After this lovely start to our stay, I was really looking forward to our room.
View into a premium room
The lift took us up to the 5th floor, where our premium room for the next two nights was located. From up here we could see the hustle and bustle around the large Madrid-Atocha train station, but we could hardly hear any of it with the window closed.
The bed with a really thick mattress is very comfortable and I quickly chose my pillow for the night from the pillow menu. Now a look round the room: kettle and tea bags, coffee machine, large TV with connections for the PC, air conditioning and a safe for the laptop. The large mirror with lots of lamps in the entrance area of the room is particularly attractive.
We continue into the bathroom. Here I was delighted with the large rain shower and the warm water the next morning. I also discovered suitable care products and of course there is a hairdryer. I even saw a curling iron and a wonderfully cosy bathrobe.
While I explored the room, Patrick tested the Wi-Fi. In our room and also later in the other areas of the hotel that we used, it worked perfectly and fast enough. These are ideal conditions for those of us who occasionally work while travelling.
I really enjoyed the 2 nights at the Only YOU Hotel Atocha. We had a good night’s sleep and were ready to explore the city the next day.
Breakfast on the 7th floor
But not before enjoying the huge and varied breakfast buffet. The breakfast room is located on the 7th floor, with a small terrace adjoining it. It’s certainly a great place to have breakfast in summer, but to be honest it was a little too chilly for me in the mornings in mid-November. But the breakfast room is also a great place to sit and during our stay and at breakfast time we had no problem finding a free table.
The breakfast really impressed us. I love eating fresh fruit and was really excited not to find a fruit salad but to be able to personalise my selection.
As a big cheese fan, I was delighted to find some cheeses that I hadn’t tried before. Patrick was delighted with the “warm section” and enjoyed his omelette. We didn’t really need anything for breakfast happiness (except a bigger stomach) and once we had found our coffee blend (the Spanish coffee is too strong and too small for me), the start to the day was perfect.
Tip:
Outside of breakfast time, the room and terrace are transformed into the Sép7ima rooftop bar. It offers first-class gastronomy with fresh dishes and a wide variety of cocktails. The ideal place for a nice evening.
A quick coffee
No time for a long and hearty breakfast? Or rather the “just a coffee in the morning” type? Then the Breakery in the hotel lobby is just the thing.
Visually, the Breakery, which is located in a container, is reminiscent of a street vendor. It serves coffee and small pastries that you can enjoy at small coffee house-style tables.
You can get coffee here all day, and the shop only closes in the evening. I think it’s also a great place to spend time waiting for the train, as it’s only a few steps from the station.
Evenings at the Trotamundos restaurant & cocktail bar
After a long stroll through Madrid, we enjoyed a cosy evening in the bar at the Only YOU Hotel Atocha. The bar is located in the lobby and is modern and cosy. The drinks on offer are varied and the prices are absolutely reasonable.
If you’re still feeling a little peckish, you’ll find a nice selection on the menu. Just looking at the plates made my mouth water.
What else does the Only YOU Hotel Atocha offer its guests?
We also enjoy doing sports when we are travelling. The Only YOU Hotel Atocha has a fitness room with very well-maintained equipment. So I was able to do a little yoga in the morning and Patrick covered a few metres on the treadmill. Access is possible at any time!
There is a barbershop in the lobby. It is very stylishly furnished in the style of the 1950/60s. No matter when I walked past during opening hours, there was always a customer in the shop.
My absolute feel-good room was on the first floor. The hotel building has three wings that are connected and covered like a triangle. In the centre of this triangle is an inner courtyard where events are also held. On the first floor of the hotel there is the option of using a landscaped terrace. There are tables where you can work, cosy armchairs for a nice chat or to read a good book and free water was also available. I found it particularly nice to sit here in the evening and round off the day.
