In the metropolis of Berlin, more precisely in the lively district of Moabit, harry’s home Berlin Moabit welcomes travelers from all over the world with open arms. This unique hotel offers a harmonious combination of cozy living comfort and modern facilities.
A green area of around 6 hectares was created in Berlin’s Mitte district after the Second World War. It is bordered by Karl-Liebknecht-Straße, Alexanderplatz station, Rathausstraße and Spandauer Straße. One of the city’s most famous buildings, the Rotes Rathaus (Red Town Hall), is located here

One step after the next … I’m already getting a bit out of breath as I climb the steps of the church tower in St Matthew’s Church. Hopefully the vantage point on the church tower will be worth it and open up a view over the neighbouring Kulturforum in Berlin.

From Buch S-Bahn station, it is just a few steps to Buch Castle Park. The small park of about 13 hectares is part of the Natura 2000 area in Buch and invites you to take a walk in any season.
For many years I took the bus from Kladow to Spandau. If you had a window seat at the top of the BVG double-decker, you could see a tower in a small strip of forest. Time to take a closer look at the Jaczoturm after many years.

Berlin Pankow – Buch district, here stands the somewhat lesser known Buch Soviet Memorial on the edge of the Schlosspark. It is one of 12 Soviet memorials in Berlin.
If you ask Berliners or tourists the answer to this question will surely be – “na in Mitte at Alexanderplatz”. But is this really the center of Berlin?
The first skyscraper built in Berlin still stands today and is one of the relics of the industrial era in the city. It was not built in the middle of the city, but stands in Berlin-Tegel. Today, the building is known only by the name Borsigturm.

The different museums on Berlin’s Museum Island often make it difficult to decide which one to visit. The Bode Museum is not only worth a visit from an architectural point of view, the interesting exhibitions with wonderful exhibits particularly captivated me.
On the northern outskirts of Berlin in Tegel, a small stream flows through one of the city’s most beautiful nature reserves – the Tegeler Fließtal. A hiking trail runs along the watercourse, attracting recreation-seekers especially on weekends.

The Jewish Museum Berlin is the largest Jewish museum in Europe. Having already seen impressive Jewish museums and synagogues in Fürth, Pilsen and Warsaw, I was very excited about the Berlin museum before my visit. A small spoiler is allowed – the visit is worth it!
Again and again I am surprised that it is possible to hike in a big city like Berlin – not between the canyons of houses, but in the green. The Grunewald offers countless interesting routes in different lengths.

an unmistakable sign at Bellevue Palace …
the Federal President is in the Berlin city area. Whether he is then in his official residence on the outskirts of Berlin or in his offices in the palace can only be guessed by taking a walk along the edge of the Großer Tiergarten.

For visitors to Berlin, sightseeing is usually the main focus, but Berlin has more to offer. Berlin is green, with lots of water and there are great opportunities for hiking. How about a hike on the Havelhöhenweg?
The Fürstenbrunner Weg cemetery is located in the Westend district of Berlin. It is two cemeteries that are connected with each other: Luisenfriedhof III and Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Cemetery.
We get off the S-Bahn at Grunewald station and leave the platform where trains arrive and depart every day. The pedestrian underpass brings us not only to the station building, but also to a place that today you can no longer see at first glance what cruel things happened here, the platform 17 at Grunewald station.

A stroll through Berlin Mitte takes you to the Schleusengraben, a smaller canal on the Spree. Here you will find the Jungfernbrücke, which connects the Friedrichsgracht with the Unterwasserstraße.

The Museum Island in Berlin-Mitte is one of the places to go in Berlin for every art and culture lover. Several museums with permanent and temporary exhibitions attract – I was attracted by the Pergamon Museum.
The Berlin Distillery produces high-quality gin from certified organic products in a small manufactory. Each gin is something special and unique. The taste is unmistakable.

From Spandau to Schmöckwitz is almost a “world trip” and so I’m not surprised that the Köpenick district is one of my “white and unknown spots” on the Berlin map. We were there to change that!
Across from the Bode Museum, directly on the S-Bahn bridge, is the modern temporary exhibition building “Pergamonmuseum. The Panorama”, which houses the exhibition “PERGAMON. Masterpieces of the Ancient Metropolis and 360° Panorama by Yadegar Asisi”.
During a walk along the Müggelspree River, we noticed the striking building of the Berliner Bürgerbräu. It attracted us almost magically and we tried to catch some impressions.

Yes, Berlin also has mountains from which you can enjoy the view over the city. The Drachenberg in Grunewald is a great vantage point over the city.
Did you know that there are currently 17 Spree tunnels in Berlin? There are already construction plans for tunnel number 18. Rotterdam has the Maastunnel and Berlin has the pedestrian tunnel Friedrichshagen – a tunnel under the Müggelspree.

One of the largest and most central parks in Berlin is the Großer Tiergarten (Great Tiergarten)in the Mitte district. The park covers 210 hectares and is crossed by several main roads that meet at the Großer Stern with the Victory Column. You need time to walk through the Great Tiergarten, or you can choose smaller and smaller areas and discover the park bit by bit.
The Hansa Quarter is just a few steps away on foot from the Großer Stern and the Siegessäule. Visually, there is a “wild jumble” of buildings that do not fit together. The fact that these buildings were designed by well-known architects and why they were built there is a special story.

There is hardly a visitor to Berlin who does not visit the East Side Gallery. Here, on a preserved piece of the Berlin Wall, an open-air gallery has been created that is really worth seeing.
Let’s go for a stroll on the Ku’damm! Come with us on a walk along Kurfürstendamm via Tauentzinstraße to the subway station Wittenbergplatz. Come with us to the City-West!

The Altes Museum is located on Berlin’s Lustgarten, right next to the Berlin Cathedral. The building belongs to the architectural ensemble of the Museum Island and is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Around General-Pape-Strasse, you can discover the former military site at 14 stations with the help of the history trail. Two stations are particularly impressive – the heavy load body and the SA-Memorial Site SA Prison Papestraße.
Not too much longer there will be the Gaslamp Open Air in Berlin that you can discover for free. But you can still see some of the old street lighting in the Großer Tiergarten.
In the Klosterstraße in Berlin Mitte stands the oldest church of the reformed community of Berlin. The Parochial Church has not only an interesting nave, but also a churchyard and a crypt that should not be missed.

Just over 10 hectares in size, Lietzenseepark in Charlottenburg is located very close to the exhibition grounds. It is bordered to the north by Kaiserdamm, to the west by the Ringbahn, to the south by the Stadtbahn and to the east by Suarzstrasse.
When the lush green of the trees gives a view into the undergrowth, the hike to the cemetery railroad is especially worthwhile. Now you can discover the old tracks, forgotten stairs and unused bridges especially well.

Wedding is the former working-class district of Berlin. One automatically associates this with gray and dreary tenements and with little greenery. But if you look closely, you will be surprised, because Wedding offers its residents beautiful parks, such as the Schillerpark, which are visited today not only by the Weddingern with pleasure.
If you travel on the Berlin S-Bahn ring, you will come to the Messe Nord station. This is a busy place, especially during trade fairs, and from here you can get to the Messezentrum Berlin. But not only that. Here is also the ICC Berlin, the Berlin Radio Tower, the House of Radio and not far away is the Theodor-Heuss-Platz.

For many years I drove past a sign on Heerstrasse almost every day that drew attention to the Georg Kolbe Museum. Again and again I have resolved to take a look at the museum and now I realize I have missed something.
In Steglitz is a building that I have not seen anywhere else in the kind, the Bierpinsel (beer brush). During my last stroll on Schloßstraße, I took a closer look at this unusual building.

The Soviet Memorial in Schönholzer Heide is rather unknown, but I find it no less impressive than the memorials in Treptow and at the Brandenburg Gate.
A tip brought the memorial to my attention, so we went to Pankow to discover it.
I think every visitor to Berlin is drawn to the Brandenburg Gate and Pariser Platz. The gate is the most famous landmark, a good reason for Berliners to drive by and stroll along the tourist paths.

While wandering the streets of Tegel, we passed a place that is still a testimony to the occupation of Berlin – the Gare Française de Tegel. A rather inconspicuous building that was the terminus of the French train.

Botanischer Garten Berlin – that’s 43 hectares, about 22,000 different plant species, huge greenhouses and fantastic paths to walk along, pure relaxation and a botanical journey around the world with short distances.

You can also discover Berlin beautifully by bike. The outer districts and especially tours through the forests and along the water are ideal for a bike tour. But this route is also great for hiking!
About 4 million people left the GDR between 1949 and 1990. 1.35 million arrived at the Marienfelde refugee camp. This is where their journey out of the GDR ended and their journey into a new life began.

I’m standing in Berlin’s Hansaviertel at the Grips Theatre, eagerly waiting for the art:berlin tour to begin. For the next two hours, we will be criss-crossing an area that was created during the Interbau 1957.
Charlottenburg, Charlottengrad … I was allowed to take part in a guided tour that focused on Charlottengrad in the 1920s and introduced me to a completely unknown “scene” in Berlin.
The exhibitions, library, and archives are closed. Reopen at E-Werk in 2025.
The Deutsche Kinematek (Cinematheque), the Museum for Film and Television, is located at Potsdamer Platz. Here you can discover an interesting permanent exhibition and regular temporary exhibitions on the subject of film and television.

In the district of Charlottenburg stands one of the most beautiful palaces in Berlin. We took a little walk around the palace and enjoyed the beautiful weather in the palace park.
During a walk some time ago I discovered a sign on a lamppost that indicated I was walking along the “Path of Memory”. Although I had already walked this path dozens of times, I had never seen this sign before and could not really imagine what or whom the memory should apply here.

I’ve been living in Siemensstadt for over 25 years now, but I haven’t really paid much attention to the architectural history of my neighborhood. Sure, I have seen tourist groups walking along here from time to time and I also know the signs on some rows of houses. But there must first be celebrated 100 years of Bauhaus, so that I then also realize, I live not only in a UNESCO World Heritage Site, I even live in a Bauhaus building by Walter Gropius!

In the fall, a hike took us from Lübars in Berlin across the state border into Brandenburg’s Mühlenbecker Land region and back to Lübars. The route was almost 16 kilometers long, but can certainly be shortened or extended.
