The DoubleTree by Hilton Berlin Ku’damm offers an exquisite blend of luxury and comfort in the heart of the former City West around Berlin’s Gedächtniskirche.
Many long-time visitors to Berlin will still know the DoubleTree by Hilton Berlin Ku’damm as the Steigenberger Hotel on Los-Angeles-Platz. After closing on December 15, 2021, the building stood unused for a while until it reopened in May 2023 after a complete renovation under new management and with a new name, and is now revitalizing the hotel scene around Kurfürstendamm.
Something has changed at the DoubleTree by Hilton Berlin Ku’damm
Anyone familiar with the “old hotel” will be very surprised when they enter the DoubleTree by Hilton Berlin Ku’damm. A lot has changed!
The biggest change took place on the first floor and first floor. The restaurant on the second floor moved to the first floor. New hotel rooms have been created on the second floor. These have slightly higher ceilings and larger windows than the other rooms in the building.
The entrance area on the first floor is now in the middle of the building. The large staircase that used to lead to the second floor has disappeared. The result is a large and bright lobby with a bar area. Inviting seating, lots of plants and a visual fireplace welcome guests and create the feeling of “I have arrived”.
A large area of the first floor is used by The Restaurant. Here, guests can not only enjoy an extensive breakfast, but also dine in the evening.
Room design
The hotel has 420 modern guest rooms and suites, all of which are equipped with free high-speed WiFi, flat-screen TVs, minibar fridges, work desks and much more.
The rooms are divided into different categories, such as king rooms, deluxe rooms, junior suites and suites. All of them have of course been freshly renovated for the opening and I was able to take a look at some of the rooms and see the comfort and facilities for myself.
Natural colors and shades of blue were mainly used in the rooms. The walls behind the headboards of the beds are decorated with wallpaper featuring tree motifs. The art on the walls is based on the seasons.
I like the rooms and the “sitting test” on the bed was tempting. It must be a dream to sleep here!
Fitness area
The fitness area is a real eye-catcher. It was created on the site of the former pool and has plenty of space and large window fronts. The modern sports equipment is located under a glass dome. There are two saunas that invite you to sweat and relax.
Working out here is almost like being on vacation! In many hotels, the fitness area is more like a storeroom. That can’t happen at the DoubleTree by Hilton Berlin Ku’damm. There is plenty of space here, you can comfortably lay out fitness mats and still work out on the equipment without disturbing each other.
Conference rooms
With 11 modern meeting rooms, the hotel offers flexible options for business events, conferences and private celebrations. I was able to peek into one of the conference rooms. The imposing chandelier still hangs here as a reminder of the Steigenberger years.
The Restaurant at DoubleTree by Hilton Berlin Ku’damm
Adjacent to the lobby is the restaurant, which is divided into several areas. In the rear area you can have breakfast in the morning and in the front area you can dine in the evening. Guests who are not staying at the hotel are also welcome here!
The chefs follow a zero-waste approach and cook sustainably. This also includes using as much food as possible. For example, dips and pesto are created from “leftovers”, which taste great.
The breakfast area is equipped with a large buffet and a show kitchen where fresh dishes are prepared. The breakfast buffet is the first purely organic breakfast buffet in Berlin. Here I was able to try a few samples of the morning’s offerings. I particularly enjoyed the meaty offerings from the region. The fresh fruit and vegetables on offer were plentiful and just right for my kind of breakfast!
We were able to see the quality of the restaurant for ourselves over dinner. The menu is sure to have something for everyone, with regional Berlin-style cuisine on the menu. They offer classics such as currywurst and burgers, but also pasta dishes, for example. The selection of drinks was very large.
My decision was made pretty quickly. I was hungry and a Wiener schnitzel (veal schnitzel) with potato salad seemed to be just the thing. The portion was almost too big for my eating habits, but as I said, I was hungry and there was nothing left over. It tasted excellent. The meat was tender, fried to perfection and the breading came off wonderfully and almost floated over the meat. This is what a good schnitzel should look like!
Patrick opted for a burger with fries. The meat was cooked to his liking and (I tried it) the fries were crispy. The burger was topped with fresh vegetables and the bun halves were slightly toasted. He was very satisfied and full.
We drank two different beers, which were brought to the table wonderfully chilled.
We had a lovely evening at the DoubleTree by Hilton Berlin Ku’damm and felt very comfortable.
