Vacation in Western Pomerania

Today, the largest part of Western Pomerania together with Mecklenburg forms the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Vacation in Western Pomerania is a recreational vacation, we present some interesting excursion tips.

The Baltic Sea region of Western Pomerania is known mainly as a water-rich vacation region with the seaside resorts on the islands of Rügen and Usedom, but also through the National Park Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft. Typical is the double coast, where the offshore island separates the Bodden from the sea and a second coastal strip has formed.

Vorpommern Anklamer Stadtbruch

The region of Western Pomerania lives mainly from tourism, with the focus here on the islands of Rügen, Usedom and the peninsulas of Darß and Zingst. The hinterland tends to be one of the structurally weakest and poorest regions in Germany.

Vacation in Western Pomerania

Hiking through forests or along the water, paddling, sailing, cycling tours, a city tour or simply relaxing – a vacation in the Baltic Sea region of Western Pomerania can be varied and eventful.

Discover national parks in Western Pomerania

In the vast protected areas of the national parks, nature is allowed to develop freely in its entirety. Man does not interfere, but he likes to observe the development of the ecosystem.

In Western Pomerania there are two national parks:

  • National Park Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft
The largest national park is characterized by the varied coastal and Bodden landscape in Western Pomerania. Here is a paradise for birds, which in spring and autumn make a stop in the national park on the way to the south.
  • Nationalpark Jasmund
The Jasmund National Park includes the chalk coast of Rügen, which captivates numerous visitors every year. One should not forget the beautiful beech forests, moors and stream valleys of the national park, which can be discovered.

Discover nature parks in Western Pomerania

In the nature parks, an attempt is made to preserve as natural a landscape as possible despite human use. Only so much may be taken from nature that this loss can be compensated by nature without any problems.

Peenetal in Vorpommern

There are three nature parks in Western Pomerania:

  • Naturpark Am Stettiner Haff
The Szczecin Lagoon is located in the direct neighborhood of Poland. The nature park extends over 573 square kilometers with its forest areas, the Ueckermünder Heide, the Haff coast and Haff meadows.
  • Naturpark Flusslandschaft Peenetal
The Peene River, or “the Amazon of the North,” has been declared a nature park because of its pristine nature and biodiversity. Here you can explore a unique river valley with moors, beech forests, reed belts and wet meadows.
  • Naturpark Usedom
Usedom is not only a vacation resort with its Baltic Sea resorts. Here you can discover inland still almost untouched moors, salt marshes, fields and meadows.

Vacation on Rügen and Usedom

To Western Pomerania belongs the largest island of Germany – Rügen with its sister island Hiddensee. But a vacation on Rügen is not just a beach vacation or a stroll through seaside resorts. There is a fantastic landscape to discover here, which in some areas is unique in Germany.

Usedom is also located in Western Pomerania. Here it attracts not only bathers, but also water sports enthusiasts and nature lovers.
