Brodenbach on the Moselle – come along on the Brodenbach adventure

The town of Brodenbach is located on the beautiful Moselle River. I think I would never have gotten to know and love this region of Germany if Tanja from Spaness hadn’t invited me to a blogger meeting with the #AbenteuerBrodenbach.
So on a Friday early in the morning I took the train from Berlin via Frankfurt to Koblenz.

Of course, the adventure already began here, the lighting in the train had failed, which proved to be very dark during so several trips through various tunnels. Fortunately, there are resourceful railroad employees who spontaneously provided emergency lighting.

Brodenbach

Once I arrived in Koblenz, I continued by bus. From the main station, bus 301 runs hourly (on Sunday every two hours) along the Moselle and also passes Brodenbach.
A tip on the side: With the rail card of the Deutsche Bundesbahn you get a discount when buying the bus ticket!

Brodenbach - entlang der Mosel

The bus took almost an hour to cover the distance. But it was not boring at all. I looked out the window and admired the Moselle with its vineyards. A fantastically beautiful landscape. Why have I never been to this area before?

Peifer‘s Moselhotel

In Brodenbach, the bus stopped directly across from my hotel. The Moselhotel Peifer was to be my home for the next two nights. The hotel is separated from the banks of the Moselle only by a road, right on the edge of a wooded area. A large free parking lot is available for hotel guests.

I was greeted very friendly and even brought to my room. A bright and friendly, functionally furnished room awaited me. I was especially pleased with the small terrace. Here were 2 chairs and a small table – and since it was glorious sunshine, I first sat in the sun and recovered from the ride.

I also did a little hotel exploration. Here are a few impressions:

The Moselhotel Peifer is ideal for hikers. Hiking maps, lunch packages for hikers and daily weather information are offered. I find the special hiking shoe rack in each room particularly practical.
Those who would like to go on a guided hike in the area can do so with a certified nature and landscape guide if booked in advance.

The breakfast at Moselhof Peifer contained everything my heart desired. From muesli to fresh fruit salad, who gets up hungry here is to blame!

Wine tasting at Hotel Anker

First item on the program in the evening – getting to know each other, welcome and wine tasting. After a few introductory words, our wine tasting began in the rustic wine cellar of the Hotel Anker. Two local winemakers (Michael Dötsch, Weingut Kobern-Gonddorf and Anton Hammes, Weingut Alken) were on hand to explain the viticulture in the region around Brodenbach. On the slate weathering soil in the region, mainly white grapes are grown, which are later pressed into wonderful Riesling. Due to the extreme slopes of the vineyards are almost exclusively handmade, which is noticeable not only in the quality but also in the price of the wines.

Brodenbach Weinverkostung

We were allowed to taste 6 different wines – from dry to sweet – and even I as an inexperienced wine drinker tasted differences and quickly found my favorite. If I visit the region next time, I will not only arrive with a small backpack and plan more space for the regional wine in my luggage!

Discover Brodenbach

The second day was themed Adventure Brodenbach and so we first discovered the town with two guides (Klaus Hammes and Oswald Klein).

Brodenbach

The local community of Brodenbach is located in Rhineland-Palatinate near Koblenz, directly on the Moselle River.
Where the name Brodenbach comes from is not yet exactly clear, there are two theories:

  • from the Slavic – as a combination of brook and ford
  • from the 3 brooks that flow into the Moselle here – one of them was called a bubbling brook

The first known documentary mention dates back to 1189 in a feudal charter of the Bishop of Cologne. However, it is not known exactly when the settlement was established. However, it is assumed that it has existed at the latest since the Ehrenburg was built. It is known that Brodenbach belonged to the Ehrenburg dominion until the end of the 18th century.

Stadthafen Brodenbach

Today, the community of Brodenbach has just under 700 inhabitants and is a popular destination for excursions.

During our tour of the town we got to know some nice corners in the town and heard stories from the “good old days” in other places. I have compiled some pictures where you can see my little highlights of the place.

At the end of our tour we arrived at the memorial high above the village. From here you have a great view over the village and the Moselle.

Panorama Brodenbach

Brodenbach is a small and cozy place that is wonderful as a starting point for discovering the Moselle Valley. From here start well-marked hiking trails of varying lengths and difficulty levels that bring the Brodenbach adventure to life.

Disclosure: The Brodenbach adventure was conducted as an organized blogger trip. The report, about the event free of charge for me, corresponds exclusively to my own opinion.
