Not far from Berlin, in the south-east of Brandenburg, lies the Spreewald holiday region. Here in the lowland area is a unique biosphere reserve and interesting cultural area.
The Spreewald is divided into the two main regions of Upper and Lower Spreewald, which are located in the Brandenburg districts of Spree-Neisse, Dahme-Spreewald and Oberspreewald-Lausitz. The Lower Spreewald between the towns of Lübben and Schlepzig is characterized by a lake landscape.
The Spreewald is a true paradise for nature lovers and water sports enthusiasts! Over 1,000 kilometers of branching waterways criss-cross the region – some even call it the “Venice of Germany”. The best way to explore the breathtaking nature is from the water in a traditional Spreewald boat, canoe or stand-up paddle board.

As a UNESCO biosphere reserve, the Spreewald offers a protected habitat for countless animal and plant species. Here you can discover rare birds, such as kingfishers or cranes, and mysterious forests, colorful meadows and sparkling lakes.
The Spreewald is home to the Sorbs/Wends, a Slavic minority with a rich culture and centuries-old customs. Experience traditional festivals, such as Easter riding or traditional costume parades, and immerse yourself in the exciting history of this region. Particularly impressive: the Sorbian language, which is still spoken in many villages today.
No visit to the Spreewald is complete without a taste of the famous Spreewald gherkins! But the region has much more to offer: from hearty quark dishes to regionally brewed beer and traditional linseed oil.
