Vacation in the land of 1000 lakes
Lakes wherever you look. If you count the small and large lakes in the region, you actually end up with over 1000 lakes. Many are interconnected and offer water sports enthusiasts a variety of options. Sailing, paddling, motor boating, house boating, swimming and fishing – here you can be active on and around the water or just relax.
But not only water lovers get their money’s worth in the Mecklenburg Lake District. There are beautiful places to discover here, such as the Müritz National Park and the four nature parks in the region.
Müritz National Park
Extensive forests, beautiful lakes and moorlands, this is the Müritz National Park. Here is the place wherees numerous animals and plants to discover. The beech forests in Serrahn are even a UNESCO World Heritage Site and are among the last lowland beech forests in Europe.
Those who want to travel in the National Park will find some official entrance area with parking. From there you can discover the area by bike or on foot, or take part in one of the guided tours offered.
Nature parks in the Mecklenburg Lake District
There are four nature parks in the Mecklenburg Lake District:
- Nature Park Mecklenburg Switzerland and Lake Kummerow

Travel information
Arrival
By train
With the Deutsche Bahn you can reach the Mecklenburg Lake District from all over Germany with only one change in Berlin. Take the IC train to Waren (Müritz) or Neustrelitz. From Berlin it takes about an hour.
By car
Coming from Berlin or Hamburg you reach the freeway junction “Wittstocker Kreuz” via the A24. From here, take the A19 in the direction of Rostock. The exits Röbel, Waren, Petershagen, Malchow or Linstow will bring you to the Mecklenburg Lake District.
By bus
There are connections by long-distance bus to Fürstenberg, Neustrelitz or Neubrandenburg.
