The restaurant Wild Wasser Neustrelitz is located in an old granary directly at the city harbour. We went to dinner at the family-run business and would like to pass on this restaurant tip.
In 1856, the Baumeiser Buttel erected the yellow brick building at the town harbour of Neustrelitz. This is where the grain used to be stored that was transported from barges to the warehouse via conveyor belts. Today, the building houses the “Alter Kornspeicher” hotel, which opened in 2014, with the “Wild Wasser” restaurant and the “Bohn’ Aparte” coffee roastery.
Restaurant visit at Wild Wasser Neustrelitz
We enter the restaurant and my first thought – “but this is cosy”. Warm colours and wood dominate the room, the light is warm but not too dim. I feel comfortable here.
A look at the menu also reveals why the restaurant is called “Wild Wasser”. The Töllner family (owners of the establishment) offer game and fish dishes. The game comes from the region, yes, and lakes with enough fish can also be found in the Mecklenburg Lake District.
We decide on the dish of the day, “Boatwright Steak with French Fries and Salad”. A choice that still makes my mouth water. I haven’t had such tender meat in a long time and the sauce was simply delicious.
For me, the restaurant visit was a taste experience!
View into the coffee roastery
When we visited the restaurant, the coffee roastery was unfortunately already closed. Mr Töllner was kind enough to take us into his sister’s realm so that we could see the lovingly designed rooms.
Carolin Töllner is a trained chief diploma coffee sommelière and roasts her own coffee specialities here. The roasting machine is in the middle of the room and although there is no roasting going on, a wonderful smell of coffee wafts through the roastery.
I immediately fell in love with the coffee roastery and after seeing the cakes from the in-house pastry shop, I know – we will come back and enjoy it. We will certainly try the coffee liqueur too!
We have already tried the coffee. Thank you for the Neustrelitz blend, it tastes wonderfully aromatic and mild, with a light chocolatey note.
