We experienced that not all hotels are the same at Paul’s Fantasia Boutique Suites in Szczecin. A small hotel run by the owner that took us into another world, so that we almost forgot about Szczecin.
When booking, we had already seen from the address that this unusual hotel was a bit outside the city centre. So we took an UBER from the train station, which brought us there for the equivalent of about 6€. But there is also the possibility to take the bus, a bus stop is about 2 minutes walk from the hotel.
Welcome to Paul’s Fantasia Boutique Suites
When the car stopped, the owner greeted us as friendly as if we had known each other for years. Immediately I felt at home and when we stepped through a door from the reception to get to our room, I had arrived in a fantastic world.
We stood in a large space that reminded us a little of a village square. In the middle of this square there was even an old car and a fountain was splashing.
Around the square I discovered the entrance doors to 6 of the 8 rooms of the hotel. The other two rooms are accessible via another path. Music was playing softly, the light was dim, as if the sun had just set.
It was lucky that we still had enough time to go exploring here. During our time at Paul’s Fantasia Boutique Suites, I felt like I was constantly seeing new details that completed the overall work of art.
Butterfly Suite
Our room was on the first floor and was accessible via a few steps. We had booked the “Butterfly Suite” and I was really curious if the pictures on the website did the room any justice.
Approximately did the pictures justice, but quite honestly, the attention to detail, the love of the room design and the warmth of this room cannot be portrayed in photos. I had arrived in a dream.
The Butterfly Suite is 26 m² and divided into three areas. Slightly elevated (2 steps), there is a bathtub on an open level. In a small room on this level is the toilet and the washbasin. On a big chair there were 2 bathrobes and slippers ready for us. If you want some privacy while bathing or showering, you can block the direct view with the help of a blind. I didn’t miss the chance to “try out” the bathtub one evening. Since we don’t enjoy the luxury of a bathtub at home, this is always my relaxation when travelling, which I enjoy only too much.
In the middle of the room is a small sitting area, here a chilled bottle of sparkling wine and a fruit basket were waiting for us. What a welcome!
Then I looked at the bed. I’m sure there are people who would say, based on the photo, what a kitschy thing to say – but it fits the whole atmosphere of the house just so, apart from that it was super comfortable.
I first stood in the middle of the room and really just looked. Of course there were butterflies to see, that’s part of a Butterfly Suite after all. Sitting on a roof beam, a wooden figure of Dick and Doof (Stan & Ollie) looked at me and a mask hung right next to the entrance door and and and….
Besides the interesting interior design, there was of course a large TV (Netflix included), kettle (tea and coffee included) and a fridge with drinks (included). The Wi-Fi reception, which was so important for us, was also available and enabled us to work quickly.
A breakfast to remember
The next morning, the “surprise” breakfast awaited us. We were the only guests in the house the first night, but this was not really noticeable at breakfast. We had decided to start the day in the garden and the table was already set with delicacies when we arrived.
The boss himself is in the kitchen in the morning. Since he is Norwegian, it was not surprising to find a Scandinavian breakfast buffet with many homemade dishes. From pickled salmon to Norwegian waffles with strawberry jam, from meaty to vegetarian – it was as much a dream as the whole hotel. On our second morning, when there were more guests in the house, the buffet was also stunning, making it hard to decide once again. With coffee and freshly baked homemade rolls, you can almost forget about time in the cosy garden.
For us, the time in the hotel was a time-out from everyday life. We enjoyed sitting in the small garden and listening to the birds and experienced this beautiful house with its imaginative design as an oasis in Szczecin.
